Arsenal and Germany international midfielder Mesut Ozil has joined Turkish side Fenerbahce on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

The 32-year-old former German international joined the Gunners from Real Madrid for £42.4m in 2013.

He won three FA Cups with Arsenal and scored 44 goals in 254 appearances in all competitions for them, but has not played for the first team since March.

The arrival of first team coach and former Arsenal player Mikeal Arterta saw Mezut Ozil who is still considered as one of the world’s best midfielder frozen out of the Arsenal team.

Mezut Ozil had fallen down the pecking order and had not made an appearance in Arsenal colours since March. The midfielder’s contract was due to expire at the end of the season but Arsenal allowed him to sign a deal with Fenerbahce.

The player had won trophies with Arsenal for the first time in years and created memories that will last a lifetime. He affirmed that Arsenal fans will forever remain in my heart.

“It is difficult for me to put into words the love I feel for the club and the fans,” Mesut Ozil said in an open letter to the club and fans alike.

“How could I possibly describe eight years of gratitude in a single letter?

“I will be a Gunner for life – no doubt about that.”
